Retreat
House
The Oratory of the Little Way was established by Father Ben Priest
in 1965. The Oratory is now an 11 bed retreat house. Currently,
the facility is now home to The Healing Mission. The former director,
Nigel Mumford, re-established the Oratory of the Little way in 1995
as a place for the wounded or sick, in mind, body or spirit, to
come for healing and rest. The Oratory offers retreats,
such as "Listening to God", Participatory Prayer for Healing,
and retreats for church groups.
The retreat house is still used for overnight accommodations, for
those planning a 2-3 day retreat, as well as single day retreats.
Overnight
accommodations are limited to no more than 11 people. Day retreats
can fit up to 25-30 people.
The
facility has a common living/dining/kitchen area. Two quiet areas,
and chapel that fits 20 people comfortably. All bedrooms are furnished
with bed linens and towels.
Meals:
We ask those coming for a retreat to provide their own meals. The
galley kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, oven, microwave and
refrigerator. Plates, utensils, glasses and cups are provided. (restaurants,
diners and deli are available in the area).
The
Hermitage
New
to the Oratory is a "Hermitage". A separate building, on the grounds
at the Oratory. Hidden in the woods for complete privacy, it allows
one to "hide away" and be with God. The hermitage provides a simple
& plain room, to sit, sleep, and pray. The Hermitage is furnished
with a twin bed, desk, and chair. It has a small outdoor porch for
some quiet time with nature. The Hermitage has electricity, but
no plumbing, and a self-composting toilet. It is within walking
distance to the side door of the Oratory's bedrooms, providing easy
access to showers and bathrooms.
Prayer
Walk
On
the grounds of the Oratory there is a prayer walk where we encourage
people to take time out and "walk out their healing".
There is also a large screened Gazebo and garden area, picnic
tables, and many feeders, attracting birds, squirrels and deer,
helping make the Oratory a wonderful place to get close to God and
nature.
